The Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) Solutions training teaches the skills necessary to deploy a Cisco® Network Convergence System (NCS) 2000 and Cisco® Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) Series network from installation to protection.

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify the major components, features, and functions of the Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 2000 and Cisco® Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) systems
  • Identify laser, fiber optic, electrical, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) safety topics associated with the ONS 15454 MSTP and NCS 2000 Series
  • Identify the major components of optical fiber cables and connectors
  • Identify the major steps required to properly clean optical fiber cables and connectors
  • Install and provision common control, optical and Ethernet cards
  • Identify types of IP addressing and common IP addressing scenarios
  • Perform system setup and login
  • Connect to a Cisco NCS 2000 and ONS 15454 MSTP chassis using Cisco Transport Controller (CTC) and use the CTC software
  • Identify specific DWDM optics and technology relevant to this course
  • Create Cisco Transport Planner design configurations and identify node configurations according to card population
  • Perform a node turn up procedure
  • Perform optical signal verification tests
  • Provision DWDM circuits using the CTC - network connections, point-to-point circuits, trails
  • Configure a Cisco optical EDFA and Raman amplifier
  • Perform Raman amplifier initialization
  • Configure an ONS 15454 MSTP and NCS 2000 Series amplified OADM
  • Provision M12 WSS in linear and M6 as well as NCS 2000 SMR nodes in ring topologies
  • Configure an ONS 15454 MSTP and NCS 2000 Series Multishelf
  • Configure an ONS 15454 MSTP and NCS 2000 Series amplified ring
  • Configure ONS 15454 MSTP and NNCS 2000 Series fiber protection
  • Install ONS 15454 MSTP and NCS 2000 Series10 Gbps muxponder and transponder cards

You will learn fundamental knowledge about optical technologies and components of optical systems in association with components built into Cisco systems optical equipment. The students become familiar with building blocks of optical transmission systems as well as with optical characteristics of data transport. The course includes an overview of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems and their design. This course teaches the knowledge and skills needed to describe technology features used in designing and implementing optical networks. You learn how to perform node turn-up. The course covers three shelf types,the Cisco ONS 15454 M12, M6 and M2 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP), NCS 2006, and NCS 2002. You learn to deploy linear and ring Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM) topologies. The course covers multiplexer-demultiplexer cards, Erbium-doped fiber amplifier cards, Raman amplifiers, transponder cards, and the newest Cisco Any Rate muxponder and crossponder cards. These cards are used in terminal, amplifier, and reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) node configurations. You configure wavelength selective switch (WSS) linear and single-module ROADM (SMR) rings. This COTI course covers 10-gigabit unprotected circuits and 10-gigabit protection using Y-cable, optical channel transport unit-2 (OTU-2), and protection switch module (PSM) cards.
